Kochi Water Metro Project envisages development of 15 routes, connecting 10 islands along a network of routes spanning 78 kms with a fleet of 78 fast electrically propelled hybrid ferries plying to 38 jetties. More than 1 lakh islanders are expected to benefit from this Project. The Project was dedicated to the Nation by Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji on 25th Apr 2023 (video link). VaaaN is participating in this first of it's kind Project in India. The Commuter ridership control system supplied by VaaaN provides counting to control
and restrict ridership based on vessel capacity. Turnstiles are installed
near the gangway. For each pontoon, there is one turnstile for entry and another one for exit. Additionally, manual swing gates have been provisioned for unhindered passage during emergencies as well as for disabled commuters. The Turnstiles are capable of operating bidirectionally. This system is installed near multiple Gangways in a jetty and exchanges boat and passenger information across all jetties which fall in the specific boat's route. The system detects incoming ferry fitted with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tags and associated BLE Reader is placed on the jetty.
